Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This website is run by ALDER CONSULTING LIMITED (“Alder Consulting”, “we”, “us”), of Lagos, Nigeria. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website.

Privacy questions and requests: [email protected] or (+234) 1236 6382.

2. What we collect

We collect personal data when you send us an enquiry through the contact form, leave a comment on an article or download a report.

If you leave a comment, we collect your name, your email address (never shown publicly), your comment, and your IP address, which we use to filter out spam. Your name and comment are shown publicly once we approve them.

Our website also uses a security check (Cloudflare Turnstile) on the Home and Contact Us pages. It reviews basic technical signals from your browser, such as your IP address, to tell real visitors from automated spam. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (IP address, date and time, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.

When you download a report, we record the report, the date and time, your IP address, the country it points to, your browser type and the page you came from.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and check how fast our pages load. It does not use cookies, does not store anything in your browser and does not identify you.

Apart from this and counting report downloads, we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools on this website.

4. Who sees your data

  • Alder Consulting team members who handle enquiries.
  • Our website hosting provider, which stores the website and the enquiries, comments and download records it collects.
  • Cloudflare, which provides the Turnstile spam check and our website analytics.
  • Authorities, where the law requires us to share information.

These providers act on our instructions and are expected to protect your data. Some may process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we take steps to make sure your data stays protected as the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 requires.

5. How long we keep your data

We keep enquiry details for 24 months after our last contact with you, then delete them. If you become a client, we keep your information as long as we work with you and for as long as the law requires. Server logs are kept for a short period set by our hosting provider.

We keep comments for as long as the article stays online. You can ask us to remove yours at any time.

We keep download records for 12 months, then delete them. Cloudflare keeps our website analytics, which do not identify you, for up to 6 months.

6. Cookies

This website does not set cookies to track you. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies, and our Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies or store anything in your browser. The Cloudflare Turnstile security check may use limited technical storage in your browser solely to protect the form from spam. If we add tools that use cookies later, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.

7. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy
  • correct data that is wrong or incomplete
  • delete your data, or restrict how we use it
  • stop using your data where we rely on our legitimate interests
  • give you your data in a portable format
  • withdraw your consent at any time (this does not affect what we did before you withdrew)

To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within a reasonable time and in line with the law.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to us first, or to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

8. Keeping your data safe

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including secure (HTTPS) connections, a spam check on our form, and limited access to enquiries. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

This website is for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
